Souths Hockey Club as we know it was formed by a group of spirited young lads who believed that they could cut it in the 1960 Mens A Grade Competition. It is reported that many of the A teams of the time were heavy with "Veteran" aged players and lacked the foresight to recruit more youthful players. In 1959, Brothers Mens A Reserve team won its respective premiership. With little chance of those lads making A Grade the following year, many of them, along with their mates from other clubs formed the youthful and successful SOUTHS.
